June 8, 2007, Newsletter Issue #67: What is candida?

Tip of the Week

Simply put, candida is a yeast infection caused by an overgrowth of candida albicans in the body. Everyone naturally has candida albicans in their body, and it is usually kept in control by friendly flora. The problems arise when the growth is out of control and the friendly flora is unable to keep up with the growth. If left untreated, a candida yeast infection can evolve into a fungal state, which is quite dangerous and can damage the immune system.
