February 5, 2010, Newsletter Issue #110: What causes candida albicans overgrowth?

Tip of the Week

Candida yeast overgrowth is caused by a variety of factors, not all of which are in our control. Women are at higher risk for developing this overgrowth, partially due to the fluctuation of hormones. A poor diet is another cause as well. Diets low in healthy foods and high in refined sugars and carbohydrates make a perfect ‘breeding ground' for the candida yeast. Taking antibiotics can destroy healthy flora, which puts the body out of balance and any immune system deficiency will weaken the system and allow candida to overgrow. It is important to keep the body in balance by taking aids such as probiotics and/or colostrum.
