March 5, 2010, Newsletter Issue #113: What is Arthritis?

Tip of the Week

There are several different kinds of arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile arthritis. Arthritis refers to diseases that affect the joints or areas around the joints and is one of the most common chronic health problems. While there is no definitive cause for arthritis, doctors do know that it has to do with the immune system. Rheumatoid arthritis, for example, is an autoimmune disease, where the body mistakes healthy tissue as bad, and attacks it. In this case, this can cause arthritis. Treatment for arthritis varies, but supplements that boost the immune system and aid in replenishing cartilage, such as colostrum, can support long term joint health.
