November 30, 2007, Newsletter Issue #91: Gastrointestinal disorders: Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Tip of the Week

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) affects a significant amount of people. Over 70% of those afflicted are women. Symptoms of IBS include abdominal pain, abnormal stool frequency, form and passage, passage of mucus and a feeling of abdominal discomfort and bloating. There is not a test for IBS and symptoms can vary from individual to individual. A diagnosis is made by reviewing the symptoms and ruling out other gastrointestinal system disorders. If you suffer from IBS, keep a food diary and see what foods cause you the most problem, and if necessary, adjust your diet accordingly. It goes without saying that the healthier you eat, the better you will feel. Colostrum has also been shown to help those with IBS by regulating bowel movement and improving the health of the digestive system.
